| May 19, 2009 in Zurich |
| in relation to the Swiss Microfinance Platform annual assemblee we are organizing an interactive public debate on the subject of:
|
| "The financial crisis - what implications for the financial and social performance in microfinance?," May 19, 2009 |
Any forecast of the impact of the financial crisis on microfinance is extremely difficult: Nobody knows when the effect will actually become clear. Few would disagree that the impact will vary according to the exposure of a microfinance institution in the local or international financial markets. However, we do not yet have a clear idea of how the quality of the portfolio of MFIs will evolve, let alone wether clients will massively withdraw deposits from their accounts held within MFIs.
The debate will address these and other aspects of the financial crisis and how they affect microfinance, in order to highlight risks and opportunities for MFIs, their clients as well as their partners in Switzerland.
The debate will be interactive: after a brief introduction by Cécile Koller (responsAbility) and Antoine Melo (SIMCE) there will be a disscussion.
The debate will take place on the 19th of May from 16.30 to 18h in the offices of the ZDC.
The conference will be followed by an informal reception hosted by the Zurich Insurance Company.
In order to facilitate logistic planning I would be grateful if you could confirm your participation at the latest by May 15th: balkenhol@ilo.org
